Capturing your kids - How to use your DSLR to record your kids

About the event
Style/Subject: We will be focussing on portraits in natural/available light using a shallow depth of field focussing on 1 subject. Images will be captured during golden hours and you can BYO subject or take turns with the supplied models. We will not be exploring reflectors or speed lights in this short course.
Time: 2.5 hours (30 minutes of basics theory & camera set up, 30 minutes of practice, 1.5 hours of free shoot time)
What you need:Â
DSLR Camera with a manual setting
Lens of your choosing (50mm prime lense is preferred for a crop or full sensor but kit lenses are absolutely fine)
Ability to navigate your camera (locate your exposure settings, image quality settings etc)
Bottle of water
Optional:
Tripod
Paper & Pen
Model (If you don't want to share with the group supplied models)
Theory Section:
During this section we will be working with our cameras to get to know them, we will be seated as a group and will be making adjustments, discussing settings and preparing our cameras for the practice shoot. We will cover:
- Review your gear & identify key settings
- Review the basics of exposure & your camera internal metering system
- Set up your camera for your practice shots
- Reviewing style and use of depth of field for portraits vs groups
- Review Depth of field for individuals Vs groups
- Review positioning subjects & available light
Practice Section
During this section 3 subjects will be placed and students working in groups of 3 will make a semi-circle around them and students will be directed to take photos, identify the errors, move position and repeat we will explore:
- Series of photos exploring your camera's sensor & how the exposure triangle affects image quality
- Using exposure compensation
- Experimenting with depth of field
- Using Auto, Shutter Priority, Aperture Priority modes
Free Shooting Section
During this section, Jaana will move from photographer to photographer to answer questions and assist with troubleshooting.

Session 2Â
Will cover editing your images and will be done via Facebook live at 8pm the same day via my facebook page.
